Real world is not built with super heroes. While people are chasing around fantasies like Hancock , real heroes like Natalie du Toit emerge from time to time.

She was given the honor to carry the South African flag at the Olympic Games opening ceremony today. Being qualified to represent your country at Olympics alone will make you a hero.

But her story is so amazing and inspirational that I had to turn off the TV and come here to share it with you.

Natalie was identified as a great prospect in her early teens .
But she couldn’t make it to the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Soon after the games,
She met with a motor accident and had to amputate her leg at the knee. For most people it would have been the end of journey. But not for Natalie, Three months later, she was back in the water. Du Toit comes from a working-class background, and maybe that’s where she learned her stubbornness and determination.

From the age of 6 , she wanted to represent her country at Olympics. She was not going to rest until she achieves her dream. Even with one leg less. While others with disabilities compete in para Olympics she was qualified to compete in the real deal. If that does not make her a super hero, what does? Seeing her carrying the South African flag today at the Olympics opening ceremony should inspire every one with dreams. She is showing to the whole world that nothing can stop someone from becoming what they want to be if they really put their heart and mind to it. Stop blaming your little in capabilities. Make use of your abilities and go for it.

great swimmer with only one leg

To finish this post, I thought of including a poem which was written by one of her coach and now a laminated copy of this hangs on her wall,

The tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals;
The tragedy of life lies in not having goals to reach for.
It is not a disgrace not to reach for the stars,
But it is a disgrace not to have stars to reach for.

No matter what will happen in her event, Natalie du Toit is already a winner. And she will forever remain a winner.
