Are you making enough money from your blog?

I warmly welcome you to my blog. I hope you will enjoy your first visit. If you like what you are seeing, I invite you to subscribe to my RSS feed.

There are 2 motives for someone to engage in blogging.

Are you making enough money from your blog? Make money from the blog.

Are you making enough money from your blog? Interact with the world.

The latter group is considerably very small when comparing with the first. And since you are already here, I believe you belong to the first group.

But the all important question is,
Are you making enough money from your blog?

If you go to forums where most web masters hang around, you will see that many people complain that they are not making anything other than few change from their blogs. But the truth is, most of the Bloggers / web site owners are making a huge amount of money. Only thing is they do not have time to hang around in forums and post their success stories.

So, you must understand that most web entrepreneurs are much richer than the company Directors you see in their fancy uniforms.

If you are not making enough money from your web site, that is not a problem with the system. This system is great. Doors are open to anyone who can see things little bit differently. There has not been a better way in history for average people like you and me to become millionaires or even billionaires.

The problem might lie on the way you have monetize your site. You might be promoting wrong affiliate networks. You might be promoting wrong products. If you think you are not good enough to make at least $500 a month from your blog, take “antharjalaya” as an example.

My blog is only 3 months old.

Alexa rank is only in the 120 k’s.

Google page rank is only 3.

I do not post regularly as I have a busy life with my other sites.

I really do not care whether I make money from this blog at this point.

When comparing with my site, I bet your blog is much much better.
Yet,
in the past 30 days I made exactly $613 from affiliate commissions.

Can you see affiliate ads placed all over my blog? No.

Am I writing posts to promote affiliate products? Only 3 posts out of all posts including this one.

But I must be doing something right to earn this much with a very minimal effort. However I believe I have figured out following things correctly.

pepperjamI am hooked up with the correct ad networks.

pepperjamI do promote the correct product.

pepperjamThey are always well paid and pay for leads.

If you like to get things right at your blog, I highly recommend joining Pepperjam affiliate network. They are a network created by bloggers. So they know how to help us bloggers make money more than any other network do. To give you a head start they are giving $10 for you to just join their network. Once you are in, you will be presented with 100’s of great products which you can use to get paid for leads / sales.

For example, just for sending someone to register with alibaba market place you will get paid $3 for the lead. The registration for your readers is Free. But you will be get paid $3 every time someone sign up with alibaba.

And to make things even better, I am giving all of the accepted publishers $5 each. You can use that money to buy advertising from stumble upon and get a small traffic boost to give some more exposure to your ads.

You already have $15 just for joining the network. ($10 from pepperjam and $5 from me.) And do the math if you convert only one sale a day. There are more than enough good converting programs for you to start promoting.

If you have no idea on how to write your sales pitch, take this post as an example. Do not adopt ” in your face” type marketing tactics. Give your readers enough facts before providing them with the link. Just a pretty ad in the side bar will not do the job for you. Accompany it with a nice informative blog post.

And if you do not have first hand experience with the product you are promoting, Do not promote it. It may help you to get few quick cheques. But you will lose your credibility as a blogger. If pepperjam is not this good I would not dare promoting them like this.

If you can get these small things corrected, no one in this world can stop you from making money. You are destined to become a winner. That is why you are already doing something out of the ordinary. I bet your family and friends know nothing about making money online. At least you know there is a possibility. Whether you end up becoming a winner or not will depend on your actions.

So what are you waiting for? Start acting like a winner.

It’s all about the hook, baby…

Have you seen visitors who spend 0 seconds in your web site? Have you noticed vast majority of your readers spend less than 10 seconds in your site? If the answer is yes, you got to work on your hook.

A hook is something that grabs your visitor’s attention and makes them curious enough to read the rest of your sales pitch / article / blog post.

If you are serious about making your way to the top, you always got to use a hook in your headline.

““Amazing Secret Discovered By One-Legged Golfer”

John Carlton, the writer of the above headline and one of the best copy writers in world, claims that, this headline is the most ripped off headline in history…Fair enough. He should be right. I can bet that every golfer who read the above headline kept on reading! He wrote this for golfers. But you can identify the characteristics of his great headline and craft your own for your own niche.

I couldn’t write to this blog last few days because I was working on another niche site. As you all know by now, I am not a blogger by profession. I launched my new niche site last Wednesday but it did not perform well as I expected. There were lot of readers who spent less than 10 seconds on the site. And obviously I did not get the return for what I spent on adwords.

I usually write my own sales copy. But this time due to exams, I had to hire some one from elance to do the writing job. The copy was okay. The ending was superb and very persuasive. I was wondering what went wrong.

So I thought of taking 45 minutes to re-write the whole thing. But I only had to change the header as rest of it was perfectly written. I just took out a “big word” from the header and replaced it with a “simple word”.

You cannot hook a reader with big words. It can turn people off and if you are using them incorrectly you could be missing out on sales. People do not visit your web site to judge your intellectual capacity. (This might work on few niches though.) So keep it simple and try to connect with your readers personally.

For example, what terms you think will connect more with your readers? The words on the left hand side or the words in the right hand side?

“Wealthy” — “Rich”
“Intelligent” — “Smart”
“Sufficient” — “Enough”
“Manufacture” — “Make”
“Additionally” — “What’s more…”
“Anticipate” — “expect”

I do not think I have to answer the question as it is pretty obvious. There are hundreds of words that can be used to hook your visitors with you. Go to the top selling sites and try to identify their hooks. Than make a list and when you are writing your next sales copy or blog post, use them to glue your visitors to your site.

After all, it is very hard to get visitors these days. So it is very important to keep the traffic as long as possible in your site. If you noticed the last few headlines I used at my blog, They helped me to do exactly that. Not only most visitors stayed beyond 2 minutes, page views increased by 60%. It’s all about the hook…Start using it.

I wrote this post as a continuation from the last post. I got lot of emails asking more questions about preparing the sales pitch. I replied to most of them but I cannot personally reply to all the emails as time is the most valuable thing to me these days. So I thought of writing more about this in the coming posts. subscribe to my Rss feed or News letter to get them as soon as I hit the publish button.

Murder your competition with killer “sales techniques”

Post Image

No matter how great the product you are trying to sell, you will make no sales unless you have a killer sales page with a killer sales pitch.

So many great products have failed in the past because they could not figure this part correctly. I have had sites with no sales. I have had sites which took 2 months to make the first sale. And now I have web sites which me and my fiancee are calling virtual ATM machines. All thanks to hundreds of tests I have done in my “sales pages”.

In fact you can do the same. Or even better. I am a 23 year old ordinary guy. I do not claim to be a guru, I do not have a huge list, I do not even have the paypal receiving option.

And I spend my day to day life with people who know nothing about Internet other than porn, facebook and gmail.

To make your job easier I thought of sharing what I have learned so far when it comes to preparing the all important “sales page”. You will be amazed to see the results if you can get done 7 out of the following 10 sales page techniques. Later I will put a donation button to send me my share :-)

The list is in a random order.

Use lot of white space, Red color headings and Dark grey font

I like the color “black” a lot. Of course you can guess that by looking at my blog. My first ever product selling site was in black background with white font. Headings were light blue.

Result: 300+ visitors in the first week thanks to ppc but zero sales.

I changed the sales page to white background, dark grey font and red headings and launched another adwords campaign.

Result: 11 sales in the first 3 hours.

I do not know what it is, but the initial site layout looked great but made no money. The later looked pretty ordinary but it converted well. So, now I am using this killer combination in all my sales pages. It proved to be a winning combination.

Put a contact phone number.

Believe it or not, this will make a huge difference in your sales levels. There are people who are still afraid to purchase something online. They like the old fashion way of visiting a store and buy something. You can give them their sense of safety net by giving a reachable contact number. Not even 1% of your visitors will try to actually call you. But when they see a phone number they will feel safer to buy from you.

Know when to shut up.

By reading the first few paragraphs, your readers will decide whether to buy your product or not. People are busy. If they want to read something long they will read “War and Peace ” by Leo Tolstoy. Not your sales pitch. You do not have to say all the things you know about the product.

Grab the readers attention, Arouse their interest , Build their desire, And ask them to take some form of ACTION. The best action would be to click the checkout button and proceed with the order. If you feel you have to give them more details, create another page and put a link in the navigation. Do not put all the stuff in the sales page. Focus your details to the point and to the order page.

Pre- sell before your visitors come to your sales page.

Use review pages, blog posts, and influence your affiliates / promoters to pre- sell your visitors to the maximum. This way, they land in your site already with a prepared mind to purchase something. Greet them with a clearly visible “shopping cart button” and their credit card will take care of the rest.

Capture your visitor's email address and follow up.

Only 10% of people will buy something straight away even if they badly want to purchase it. Lot of people will postpone the action thinking, “okay , I will buy it tomorrow”, ” I will get this on my pay day”…etc. One thing you have to understand is people are busy. So busy that they could simply forget about your product.

That is why you have to keep reminding them of you. Try to capture their Email address when they first visit. Offer a bonus pack, valuable tips as a gift and expose your product to them frequently. If they do not want your email, they can simply “unsubscribe” from the list. So, use this as a powerful marketing tactic. But try not to annoy them. You will figure out the boundaries once you start using it .

Use the “Limited Time Offer

I did not want to use this technique first, but when I started using this I realized I have missed hundreds of sales by not using this before. Only problem is, if you customer visit the page in a future date he will see that the offer is still going on with the ending dated changed. You can not make every thing right. There are small prices to pay if you want to succeed in this rat race. But if your product quality is great, no one is going to complain. So use the entire armory you have in your hand.

Give them a fair Bonus to complete the deal.

People love free stuff. People love Bonuses. If that is what needed to close a deal, why not offer it to them? Always try to give a complimentary product. And if you are selling a $30 product, do not put the bonus value as $1347. People are not dumb. (Not all.) Keep that in your mind all the time and try to be realistic in your approach.

Give them that little personnel touch.

No one likes to have deals with complete strangers or with robots. You are a human being and let your customers know that there is a real person behind all this.

Do not forget to put a link to the “about us” page. A picture of you will do a whole lot good. Unless you look like this. At the end of the sales page have your digital signature posted. Wish them luck. These little things add up when tuning your readers mind to make that all important purchase.

Avoid grammar/ spelling mistakes as much as you can.

Everyone do mistakes when writing. No one is perfect. I bet you will find many small mistakes in this post. As long as the mistakes are small the readers will forgive you. They know you are not writing for “New York Times”. But keep the mistakes to the minimum. People who are used to using mobile phones and instant messaging are transferring that way of writing into all forms of writing. Do I need to mention that it is not the best way to approach your customer?

You are trying to sell something to a real person. Not to Google.

Google has dominated all our lives and web masters give the No 1 priority to Google most of the time. Google may send you traffic. But you have to compel your visitors and encourage them to take an action. They have not come here to take a look at your search engine optimization skills.

They are here to look for answers. If the answer is in your site they will go ahead and perform the action you want them to do. So balance your act and put readers first. You can always buy traffic from cheap PPC. (The best method of traffic if you are to sell something.)

I stop this post here to avoid this becoming another ” war and peace”. I will definitely share my other valuable sales techniques in my future posts. Pricing is very important. And in a recession like this, we have to change our pricing strategies. Expect to read all the details about the tests I have been doing and how they converted. And the “inspirational success stories part 2″ is coming soon.
