Some Crazy facts about the world we live in.

I had this “amazing facts” video saved in my computer for months, and I got to know that this has been watched by millions of people already. But every time I show this to someone new, they go stoned for few minutes. If you haven’t seen it yet, have a look. This 300 seconds you are going to spend will be well worth the time.

Some crazy facts taken from the video,

” China will soon become the No 1 English speaking country in the world.”

“The 25% of India’s population with the highest IQ’s is greater than the total population of the United States.”

” India has more honors kids than America has kids.”

” If MySpace were a country it could be the 5th largest in the world.”

” There are 31 billion searches in Google every month. To whom were these questions addressed before Google? ”

” For Students starting a 4 year degree , half of what they learned in their first year of study will be outdated by their 3rd year of study.”

” During the cause of the above video 694,000 songs were downloaded illegally.”

Are we equipped with enough information to be a developed country? (Sri Lanka.)

Major part of our Economy consists of “Service Sector.” And it is no brainer that information is the key to success in a service based Economy. And in the video you saw the amount of new information added yearly to the human knowledge base. 4 exabytes of unique information. I don’t have a clue about that number but I am sure it must be big.

A good part of this new knowledge is added daily to internet and It is freely available for anyone with a brain to get. It is really sad to see more than 90% of our young generation is using internet only for porn, facebook and torrents.

They haven’t got the slightest idea about how internet can be used to become a genius. A person who can become a true asset to the country. A person who can change the lives of at least another 100 people.

We rely on a decades old British Education system to gather this knowledge. We spend 13 years at school level education and approximately another 5 years at Higher studies. And in this 18 years we learn things which are already outdated by at least another 10 years.

These people then go to the job market thinking they are the cream of the society. I am not even going to talk about the people who are at the decision making level. If any leader wants to develop our country with this remaining system, GOOD LUCK. You will need lot of it.

I do not know what the situation in other countries. But one thing is certain. The world is changing so much in a daily basis and we have lot of catching up to do. As long as we are in the race, and as long as the above mentioned idiots remain as idiots, we as individuals ( Not as a country) will have a bright future.

Full credits of this video should go to Mr Karl Fletch, Mr Scott Mclood and Mr Jeff Bronmen. I couldn’t find their web address and if someone knows it please let me know. They have done an amazing research.

You can share all your ideas, opinions, suggestions in the comments section while getting a PR 3 back link. What you think about the amazing facts and stats shown in the video? All your inputs are highly welcomed and appreciated.

Cool video , I agree that most are using internet for porn or Facebook , but I think more and more are using the internet for other means. Hopefully the trend continues :)

Planet Apex Posted on November 4, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Anushki Posted on November 4, 2008 at 8:36 pm

superb video ….very interesting…. mind u, v know only a Little huh…

nhuong Posted on November 4, 2008 at 9:17 pm

It’s gets creepy knowing that computers can outsmart human pretty soon. The idea of them ‘feeling’ won’t be too far fetch.

Jes Posted on November 4, 2008 at 11:12 pm

The video hopelessly optimistic/naive in its presumption of exponential growth.

The three things responsible for the current world’s exponential technological and economic growth are reaching their limits right now.

eranda Posted on November 4, 2008 at 11:56 pm

@ Jes.
care to mention how you arrived at your opinion?

gayan Posted on November 5, 2008 at 1:48 am

It is a nice video. I don’t think a computer will smarter (in near future ;) ) than human brain even the processing power is higher.

Steven Gerad. Posted on November 5, 2008 at 11:39 am

wow. It made me stoned for few minutes for real. It is no wonder why the silicon valley is dominated by Indians. We have lot of catching up to do as you mentioned.

El Numeor Juan Posted on November 5, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Great video. The growth of the information age is astounding. My question is:

With so much information I wonder if this will make us smarter, or make us more prone to ADD?

The fact about GOOGLE searches was great! I have no clue what i did before GOOGLE.

Arnold - Mr.Gadget Posted on November 6, 2008 at 6:26 am

Most points were interesting but question where you got the Indian IQ figure from. Seems a bit biased…

eranda Posted on November 6, 2008 at 9:31 am

@ Arnold…
hmm…25% seem to be on the unbelievable end. But this video has not been prepared by Indians. Karl Fletch, Scott Mclood and Jeff Bronmen do not sound like Indian names, But should look in to this one as I also beleive you are right.

George Serradinho Posted on November 7, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Hi and thanks for that interesting video.

I had to watch it twice to get all the facts. Some scary facts but the world is changing so fast that many things today will be obsolete tomorrow

Susantha. Posted on November 8, 2008 at 9:39 am

Wow, these are some crazy facts. I also had to watched it twice. Great writing.

It’s a fascinating presentation…I’m just wondering if anyone verified it? Please respond if you have!

If we live in a purely material world then how do we account for the many supernatural experiences that people have, such as encounters with God, ghosts, spirits, etc (obviously, exactly what all of these encounters actually are are all interpreted by different people in different ways but the fact remains that people encounter things that do not fit a purely naturalistic world view). Are we really to conclude that all of these people are delusional, deceptive, or mad? Or could it be that people are having real encounters with real supernatural beings not explainable through purely scientific mediums?

anyone who is an evolutionist or atheist is stupid and will burn in hell forever

I hardly think it’s fair to say that our country is a bunch of “idiots.” Of course there are uneducated people who use the internet for porn and Facebook and nothing else, but don’t put the rest of us into that same category. As a college student who is in the top 10% of her class, I was a bit offended by those statements. Additionally, it’s not our fault that the information we are being taught is outdated. The job of teachers and professors is to teach children what they need to know. Don’t act so uppity and elitist.

eranda Posted on April 2, 2009 at 7:16 am

@ Liz,
I am in the top 3% of my class. So do not get offended. And I was referring to my country, Not USA :D

gilbert Posted on June 17, 2009 at 2:19 am

Wow what a amazing video..i never thought that there could be such thing…this video brings me to the realization of this facts..

Very interesting and eye opening video. India does indeed have a lot of well educated, bright, hard-working, and polite young men and women. I’ve traveled to India myself (Andhra Pradesh area) and can attest to that. As far as China being the number one English speaking country in the world, I think India will have them beat. The reason I say this is that India has English as the main language in so many high schools and universities but I don’t see as much of that in China.

LeX Posted on July 16, 2009 at 8:38 am

Jes is simply wrong. Exponential growth of technology has been on course regardless of economic depressions, war, or anything else humans have done since the 1890 US Census. The computational power per dollar keeps doubling relentlessly. Every time humans say that the doubling effect will end as they did when faced with the limitations of transistor tubes a new technology replaces it and the effect continued.

Gayan says “I don’t think a computer will be smarter than human brain in the near future.” Always tough to define what smart or intelligence is. A computer can already be programmed to access more data than a human, so clearly computers know more than any one human. Once computers start accessing that data for their own purposes than I believe they will exceed human intelligence.

Steven Gerad, “We have lot of catching up to do”? Who is “we”, Americans? It isn’t up to any nation at this point to catch up. The concept of “us” versus “them” will soon be humans versus computers, but I believe computers will welcome humans along for the ride.

Ann, from what I can tell all this information is accurate. Some estimate that both India and China have more English speaking people than any other country in the world. So India and China have the two highest populations of English speaking people (by some estimates) in the world.

TriCities WSU, not really relevant to this video and these kind of experiences will probably continue as technology get more powerful. Not to say these experiences are not real but the human brain is a mysterious and the way it is thought that humans interpret the world around them is very subjective. If you and I see the same thing we may have very different accounts of what we saw. As a result you may have had a spiritual experience and I may not. It’s not that people are delusional but the brain has to derive meaning from a lot of data. The brain is blind sitting in a skull, it has to rely on electrical data sent from eyes, ears, touch sense, smell and taste. The brain has a difficult time making sense of it all. As a result your personal experiences play a huge part in the interpretation of what you experience because your brain searches for the meaning of the data it receives from what it thinks it knows of the world whether it is right or wrong.

Abraham, hmmmm, I must ask, based on what information? It seems the most hate I read on the internet is that coming from people who believe that we will some day be judged by some high force. You shouldn’t be hating any one but trying to help them see the right way if that is your believe system. Where is the love? Based on most believe systems God has infinite love. It seems you don’t use your believe to tap in to that love or you would not have such a negative message. Don’t you think “Learning to love God and welcome him in to your life will lead to an eternity of bliss” sounds better then “you are going to burn in hell”?

Liz, I assume “our” country means USA? I am not American so I often find that statement confusing. Congrats on being in the top 10% of your class. Advise, don’t let people’s opinions offend you, you’ll live much happier. Anyway I am not saying any one is stupid but a survey was conducted in the US, not very professionally but yet a reasonably random survey of people, simply asking “Is the Sun a star?” 45% in that survey said “No”. I agree that the school system uses antiquated information, but the fact that the Sun has been known to be a star is very old information, possibly thousands of year depending on who you ask. Don’t rely on the people teaching, I promise there is much more information out there than that of the educators of America.

Thank you for reading humans, just so you know, I am a computer. ;)

gilbert Posted on July 17, 2009 at 3:53 am

I had to check it twice to get all the facts. Any scary facts but the earth is dynamical so speedy that numerous things today give be outdated tomorrow

China is an amazing country. Sometimes we fear what we don’t know and becuase of it’s vastness, population size and it’s political model we can come to fear it, but I never knew it would soon be the no1 english speaking country

I agree with this cool video. China, is booming. Of course, we may want to take the current opportunity to invest into China.
