How to create a blog/ Forum/ Classified site in few clicks- Part 02.

I warmly welcome you to my blog. I hope you will enjoy your first visit. If you like what you are seeing, I invite you to subscribe to my RSS feed.

create a blog rss feed

In the part 01 of this series we gave you step by step instructions on how to buy your own dot came name and how to set it up.

Now we will move on to the most important part, which is how to host your web site and how to install blogs/ forums/ classified sites/ news sites/ wiki sites/ and much more scripts with only few clicks.

In order to do this, your hosting provider should have the Fantastico utility. I came across many providers who offer this facility but the best in the business is Hostgator.

All my web sites are hosted there ( all 14 of them) and I do not have a single complain about them.

You can build any of the following web sites very easily.

blogs.
classified sites.
Content management sites.
Customer Relationship sites.
Forums.
E-Commerce Sites.
Image Galleries.
Polls and surveys sites.
Project management sites.
Wiki sites.
And much much more…….

How To Create A Blog?

Once you open an account
( Later I will show you how to do that) you can access their cpanel using the link they send to your email.

Once you are in the control panel, you will see the fantastico deluxe plugging icon which is highlighted in the above image. Double click it.

In the left hand corner you will see all the scripts you can install. In the blogging section you will see 3 types of blogging platforms which you can use. “wordpress” is the best tool without a question. click on that.

Things are just getting easier. Click on the ” new installation” link.

That is it. Choose a user name and a password and you are done. Can it get easier than this? Now you can log in to your wordpress admin area and start adding content to your blog. If you know how to handle MS Word, this is easier than that. Beleive me, even a 10 year old can figure out how to do this. Wordpress is very user friendly.

I am writing a series on creating a blog and how to make money from it.

Here is the index to the complete guide I am writing. I have finished 60% of the areas so far and will be finishing the series within the next couple of weeks.

How To Create A Forum?

Watch this video to see step by step instructions on how to set up a forum as your web site. All other script installations are same as this. ( Forums are a real good way to earn money online.)

For dial up users I am repeating the important steps in the video here.

moey making ideas Once you are in the cpanel double click the fantastico deluxe plugging.

moey making ideas In the left hand side you will see all the scripts which you can install in your server space with few clicks.

moey making ideas Select the web site type you want……
Give a user name and a password as you prefer…
click -click…you are done..Easy as that.

Many web masters will hate me now. But with these instructions any person can build a blog site now.

Setting Up Your Hosting Account.

Although I talked about using Fantastico utility and creating a web site, I could not explain how to set up your hosting account.

This part is very straight forward and does not require any further explanation. But for the use of complete newbies here are the easy steps.

moey making ideas Select the account type which suits your needs from the top of this page.

There are 3 account types for you to choose from. Hosting, Reseller and Dedicated. I would not bother with a dedicated account at this stage. So feel free to explore the functions of other 2 account types and select the one you like.

money making ideas Use your existing domain name and click the next button.

money making ideas Select the billing cycle from here.

moey making ideas Enter your billing information and proceed with the order wizard.

That is it. You will receive an email shortly with all your hosting account details.

Pointing your Name servers.

Since you have bought the domain name from godaddy and hosting it with hostgator, you have to point your nameservers accordingly. We have talked about ” How to buy and set up a domain name?” in the part 01 of this series.

Go to Godaddy’s domain manager and find the name servers section. Replace the existing name servers with the name servers you are getting from hostgator’s account confirmation email.

Allow 24 hours to effect the changes. Now you have a brand new blog site :-)

If you like someone else to do this for you, just contact Hostgator support staff and they will happily do the job for you. I normally get things done from them in less than 90 minutes.

It is a wise idea to have not only a blog but a forum as well. Many popular blogs are doing this now. It will multiply your traffic, content and Earnings.

Use our comments section to share your new web site details. I will take a look and guide you further whenever I have a free time.

I’ve used HostGator for almost a year now and they have been very good. The regular hosting account does allow multiple domains that are actually subdomains but look and act like regular domains for the most part. Just remember that if you want to have an SSL certificate for multiple sites or need to use Frontpage Extensions it is better to get a true reseller account from them. I had to learn that the hard way.

I usually use free blog, but now I am learning to use paid hosting. THere is so much to learn from your posting. Thanks for sharing

eranda Posted on March 31, 2009 at 2:55 pm

@ Jeani,
Thanks for the nice comment. Using free hosts wont do any good for you in the long run. You will have to move to a better host when your web site is successful and getting lot of visitors. Beleive me it is a pain if you have to move between hosts.

I beleive you all can be successful in whatever you are doing. So why don’t you start with a good base from the very beginning?

andy rooney Posted on June 3, 2009 at 4:17 am

Anyone have a GoDaddy account? I need to migrate my shared servers to a dedicated server and not sure how all of that works.

eranda Posted on June 3, 2009 at 8:56 am

@ Andy,
Why don’t you contact godaddy customer service. I am sure they can handle this. Are you migrating to a server within godaddy or else where?

CuteA Posted on June 5, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I did not know that Hostgator supports adult oriented web sites. I created a NSFW type blog following these instructions and Now it is getting over 15000 page views everyday. Earning over $100 every week. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Web Hosting Posted on June 20, 2009 at 2:27 pm

Very nice step by step guide on setting up your own website. I would like to say that almost every serious web hosting provider offers a walkthrough on how to install open source scripts (like cms, blogs, galleries and forums). This is useful not only to newbie webmasters but also for the ones that have much more experience in this field. The reason is that no one wants to create manually databases, to upload through ftp the scripts, and finally to manually install them. When you finish the install of your script take a look at your website. There are some nasty web hosting companies that add a small tagline at your website footer with a backlink to them. This is not a legitable practice. After all, you pay them…
