Adsense still a money maker?
Posted in: Money, adsense
I warmly welcome you to my blog. I hope you will enjoy your first visit. If you like what you are seeing, I invite you to subscribe to my RSS feed.
When you first start a web site or a blog, it is very hard to monetize it using other methods. Your only hope is adsense at this stage.
It is very easy to get in to the system and it used to be very easy to make money with adsense. Times have changed now. Still it is easy to get accepted as a Google publisher but it is not easy to earn clicks in a legitimate way.
That is why most publishers get desperate and use illegal methods to generate clicks. But eventually they get banned because Google is the Greek God of Internet. Google knows everything.
I started using adsense on the very first day of my blog. I was not desperate to make money from this blog so I just wanted to give it a try. I knew I could get rid of the code if it is not working out for me.
But as you can see, I am still running them. But most bloggers complain that their ads are not converting. They say people have become adsense blinded. But I realized Whether we can make money with adsense or not is completely depending on the way we present adsense to our viewers.
Most “adsense secrets guides” tell you to blend them as much as possible with the content. But we must not forget the fact that people do not live in caves these days. They can identify an ad no matter how hard we try to hide it. So the best way is to present it in a nice way without annoying the visitors. And if the ads are relevant, there is a high chance of your visitors clicking them.
The easiest way to get more relevant ads is to use Google section targeting. I have seen many publishers are ignoring this all important 2 codes. When you are writing something off topic use this code,
<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>
<!– google_ad_section_end (weight=ignore) –>
For example, if you are writing about investments and in the last paragraph if you are asking your readers to subscribe to the web site, you can block that irrelevant part by using the above code.
And if you feel some paragraphs are highly relevant with keywords to your topic, use this code to highlight them.
<!– google_ad_section_start –>
<!– google_ad_section_end –>
My click through rate increased significantly once I started using these 2 simple codes.
You are seeing the best adsense layout worked for me so far. I have tried blue color Titles, Orange color titles and several different back ground colors. For several days I ran them with a white back ground and contrasting colors. But the current combination is the one worked best for me. That is not going to stop me from trying few different things in the future.
And you should not go ahead and change your adsense settings blindly. This adsense layout is working nicely for my blog. Unfortunately there is no universally accepted way to present your adsense ads. You have to figure out what colors and placement will do the work for you. But I am 100% certain that there is a wining combination of color and placement for all the web sites. The Sooner you find yours, more money you will make. It is really possible to make money with adsense.
The adsense unit you see at the very beginning of this post is the one which got me most clicks. Since it is the first ad unit of the web page, the value of clicks are also high. I have had clicks valid up to $3.90 a click. It is a good idea to float the adsense unit with your text content. You can do this by using the following code.
<div style=”float:left; margin: 10px;”><Your adsense code></div>
The main thing I realized is adsense is still a money maker. My blog is only 3 months old but I will be withdrawing my second adsense cheque next week. I created a content site last month on health and beauty just for adsense. And it is already showing good potential, both with Google search engine placements and with Adsense earnings.
What I like about that web site is I can simply forget about it in 2-3 weeks. It will still bring me money. It is much easier to maintain a web site than maintaining a blog. So if you are after few quick bucks from Google adsensde, always go for a web site. Not a blog. Not only it will make your life easy, web sites make it much easier to rank for good keywords in search engines. SEO guru’s may not agree with me. But I am speaking from my experience. Just my 2 cents though.
If you are planning to make money with adsense by creating a web site, Watch this video by my friend Lisa from 2createawebsite. She has some very good points and I am sure you will like it.
Do not forget to read,
I made $600 in 2 hours last week. Read this till I post a full report.

very nice information. I was planning to create a web site for adsense and I am lucky I stumbled upon this post. Any particular niche you recommend for adsense?
Very informative! I didn’t know you could exclude content and prevent it from showing up in adsense. That was one of the reasons why I haven’t implemented adsense on my blog. I was worried, for example, if I was blogging about the merits of cloth diapers, and mentioned how wasteful disposable diapers are, then I would get a ton of Pampers ads, LOL.
Thanks again!
Great info and I thank you for it - the use of codes I have never heard of from all the gurus I’ve been studying so faithfully…LOL
Oh, really appreciate the article, hope one day I can earn 100 dollar/day as well!
Thanks for the nice comments. Start using the codes. They are really beneficial and will bring you 100% relevant ads.
What you think about Lisa’s video?
I am having a hard time getting the code to work. I am pretty much a novice at this and never tried adsense in the middle of the first paragraph (always used in column right). When I use the code you suggested “” nothing displays.
By looking at your page source, I see that you used something else. Help????
Right now, if I post the adsense code, the box 250×250 appears. I want to wrap the text around it and float it on the right, just as yours appears at the top of this post. Here is what I tried:
<div style=”float:right; margin: 10 px;”
Thanks, and great post!
@ joe. field enter the div opening tag and in the field close the div dag.
hi, use the “adsense manager” wordpress plugin. And in the ad settings you will see a section called “Wrap Html Code”. In the
I am using the same but with a slightly different setting because it clashes with my css. Let me know if you are still having problems. I will look in to it.
I never did very well with my google ad’s but then again I was only getting 4000 hits a month. I would make around 35-55$ a month. But in the last six months that number had fallen. Last month I did make 35$ but was real low… That is also what I noticed in the pic… It is only 2.7 and 100$ came from 500 click and 20000 imp… Is there anyway to get better payouts?
I’m going to have to re-read the post i need to find a way to make my blogs and website produce… Thank for the info
I have also looked at some CPA advertisers. They share a better portion of the revenues. You dont think it is a good idea to start with them?
You are right there is no point disguising ads…yes it is the relevance that will get you the clicks. I think adsense does a very good job of that.
@ chato,
It is good idea to have few content sites running adsense. Not blogs. It will not take more than 2 days to build a nice 10 page content site. But there is a more chance of getting clicks.
@ Ivs
It depends on the CPA you choose. Do not use ” ADbrite” in any case. They are the worst and I heard load of bad stories about them. And there are few other great networks too. Share your experience with us :-)
I always wanted to create a site for adsense. But never had the time really. But this is encouraging. should start it this weekend. Thank you for the nice tips.
I never know that there is code that could help you increase your ads exposure.
A great looking site with awesome . Nice to see that it is from a sri lankan. Keep it up Eranda. We are behind you.
This is some great advice. I have been using google for a while now and have not reached payout yet, I’m going to try these codes on a few sites and see what happens.
great site…..nice to see you
Wow! What a fabulous post! I am implementing those tips as we speak (yes, I’m an octopus) and hope to see more revenue for my ads. Thank you for adding so much valuable info for your visitors.
I’ve tried implementing the following tags:
Unfortunately it doesn’t work. All of the ads are still credit card related (likely due to the name of my website) when in fact I’m boxing in information with those tags that is related to something else, such as investing.
Any ideas why this might be happening?
For whatever reason the tags didn’t show up but they are the google_ad_section_start and google_ad_section_end tags.
@ joseph,
I just checked your web site code and I did not see the start and end codes. Did you insert them correctly in the wordpress html section?
@eranda,
I must have forgotten to include it in this post. I usually include it. Nevertheless it’s inserted now and still the ads are not relevant to the content between the tags.
Any thoughts?
hmm, I think your domain plays a bigger role when deciding the ads Google is going to display. However this method should work as it is mentioned in the Google adsense customer support section too. Has adsense bot crawled your site after you make adjustments? If not, the ads will not be changed….
